Discover the experience of the exhibition "Loving Picasso – Muses, Lovers, Artists" with amuseapp

For the exhibition "Loving Picasso: Muses, Lovers, Artists" at JMuseo in Jesolo, the cooperative Coopculture chose to use the smart, multilingual audio guide by amuseapp to enrich the visit experience and make it more accessible, engaging and interactive for a wide and varied audience of adults, families and international tourists.

To explore the results in depth and gather valuable feedback, we interviewed Ilaria, head of educational and didactic design for Coopculture, who worked directly with the amuseapp team on the guide's content, helping to tailor the offering for the JMuseo audience.

Coopculture is one of Italy's leading cooperatives in the cultural sector, with over 30 years of experience and a widespread presence in more than 240 cultural sites across Italy. It combines innovation, sustainability and inclusiveness, placing the enhancement of local areas and communities at its core.

The JMuseo, located in Jesolo, is an exhibition space that blends art and storytelling. The exhibition "Loving Picasso: Muses, Lovers, Artists" explores the relationship between Pablo Picasso and the women in his life, highlighting not only their role as muses but also their own independent artistic voice. The exhibition path weaves together paintings, photographs, drawings and testimonies, offering a moving look at the relationship between love, inspiration and artistic creation.

What were the main difficulties your museum faced before using amuseapp?

"Before amuseapp was introduced, we didn't offer any form of audio guide or any tools for self-guided exploration of the exhibition. The only way to visit the exhibition was the traditional guided tour in Italian. This limitation made the experience less accessible, especially for foreign visitors, families with children and anyone wishing to experience the museum independently, at their own pace and according to their own interests."

Why did you choose amuseapp?

"What pushed us to try amuseapp was a mix of practical motivations and more emotional ones. I've worked in museum education for years, so I know well the value of direct interaction, that ‘one-to-one’ experience where a person tells the story of the museum to a group or a single visitor. However, I realized there were needs we couldn't meet in person: for example, the need to offer explanations of content in multiple languages, or the possibility of offering an audio guide designed for multiple target audiences: for both adults and children, two very different audiences that are often present together.

I already knew amuseapp thanks to your work at the Musei Civici di Venezia and because I regularly read your newsletter, which I've always found inspiring. I had promised myself that, as soon as I found myself working in a suitable context, I would get in touch with you. When the opportunity came to work with JMuseo on the Picasso exhibition, I knew it was the right moment. And so it was."

How easy was it to implement amuseapp in your museum?

"Everything seemed very simple to me. The QR code at the counter didn't create any difficulties, either for me, for the staff or for visitors. Nowadays everyone has a QR code reader on their smartphone, or if they don't, they can download one on the spot."

What changes have you noticed in visitor engagement since activating amuseapp?

"Since we introduced amuseapp, giving visitors the chance to purchase an audio guide to explore the exhibition independently, I've been pleased to see that this opportunity is being taken up. Audio guides are being purchased and appreciated by visitors, and this shows that it's a useful service, one that enriches the visit experience and makes it more accessible and inclusive.

In particular, I'm very satisfied with the guide designed for children: it's a tool that sparks curiosity and participation, turning the visit into an engaging, active moment for the youngest visitors too."

Have there been particularly positive responses from visitors?

"Yes, we've received several positive responses, especially regarding the availability of the audio guide in multiple languages. It's an aspect that visitors really appreciate, and it's undoubtedly one of the service's strengths, given Jesolo's touristic nature and the variety of visitors it welcomes. During the planning phase, together with Marco, we carried out a brief analysis of the local area to identify the most strategic languages to include, going beyond the usual standard options. This targeted approach definitely made a difference."

Which features impressed you the most and how have they had a strategic impact on the museum?

"The feature that impressed us most is undoubtedly the multilingual support, developed specifically around our museum's needs. It's not a simple standard package, but a carefully considered, strategic selection designed to truly reach the international audience that visits Jesolo. Besides the more common languages such as Italian, English, French, German and Spanish, the audio guide is also available in Hungarian, Czech, Polish, Dutch and Danish. This linguistic variety has been very well received by visitors and is a real strength of the experience.

Added to this is another element we found essential: the ability to update content quickly and flexibly, a feature that lets us adapt the offering with agility based on changes to the exhibition path or teaching needs."

How would you rate the support you received from the amuseapp team? Any suggestions for improvement?

"The support was excellent. We've only recently gotten to know each other, but the first impression is very good. And I feel free to ask the amuseapp team for support whenever needed, and to propose new ideas in the future."

Was the training adequate for the museum team?

"Yes, the training was clear and effective. The team quickly acquired the skills needed to manage the tool and support visitors independently, without any difficulty."

What kinds of additional content do you think could enrich the visitor experience?

"I would really like to introduce musical content that could accompany and enrich the visit experience in a more immersive and emotional way. It's an idea I could see working not only for Jesolo, but also in other museums I collaborate with.

In addition, I think there's room to further develop interactivity, especially in the content dedicated to children. I'd like to propose a kind of narrative game in stages, a more dynamic and engaging experience that encourages active participation throughout the visit."

Would you recommend amuseapp to other cultural venues?

"Absolutely yes, I would recommend amuseapp to other cultural venues, but with one caveat: to achieve a truly effective result, close collaboration between the amuseapp team and whoever manages the venue's content, and knows the audience deeply, is essential. Content needs to be tailored to visitors, avoiding encyclopedic and boring approaches, so as to guarantee an engaging, memorable experience in which the visitor can leave having had a great experience and having learned something new."

How would you describe your cultural venue's experience with amuseapp in one word or phrase?

"Fun. Both in the creation phase and in the final result for the audience. For me, art also has to be this: an experience that leaves you with something, that sends you away with a smile and something to think about."
