MUMAC – Museo della Macchina per Caffè di Cimbali Group

Discover the experience of MUMAC – Museum of the Coffee Machine by Cimbali Group with amuseapp's audio guide.

MUMAC, the Museum of the Coffee Machine by Cimbali Group, located in Binasco, on the outskirts of Milan, is an exhibition space dedicated to the history and evolution of espresso coffee machines. Opened in 2012, this corporate museum represents a unique cultural heritage that tells the story of Italian espresso through an extraordinary collection of vintage coffee machines, historical documents and advertising materials.

What were the main challenges your museum faced before adopting amuseapp?

Communicating with foreign visitors who didn't speak Italian or English. We often organize tours in these two languages, but we needed support, like an audio guide, that would also let tourists of other nationalities enjoy an engaging visit experience and fully discover the history and richness of our exhibition.

We also chose a solution that lets visitors explore independently, enriching their experience and optimizing MUMAC's operations.

Did you have other audio guide systems before amuseapp?

Before amuseapp, we offered visitors an audio guide in several languages through an app that had been built specifically for MUMAC. However, it turned out to be a system that became outdated over time, requiring constant updates, and eventually fell out of use.

Why did you choose amuseapp?

What struck us right away during the introductory call with the team was the clarity with which the solution was presented to us, as well as the transparent approach of Francesco and Paolo. We immediately felt comfortable and sensed reliability and availability in the amuseapp team.

Other aspects that convinced us to choose amuseapp were the innovative use of artificial intelligence and the real-time reading and translation feature. These elements were decisive in our decision, because they make the experience more accessible and engaging.

How has amuseapp helped improve the visit experience at your museum?

Implementing amuseapp's audio guide in twelve languages (Italian, English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Polish, Swedish and Portuguese) allowed MUMAC to offer foreign visitors a complete, engaging visit experience in their own native language. As a result, this made MUMAC a more accessible and inclusive museum, in a perspective increasingly geared toward corporate social responsibility.

Thanks to amuseapp's flexibility, we've made several itineraries available, letting each visitor choose the one best suited to their needs. At MUMAC, it's now possible to explore the museum with an introductory itinerary, a shorter, more concise one, or an extended one. We've also created themed routes, including one dedicated to the evolution of the barista, one on the curiosities of "Il Cimbalino" and one focused on Design. We were also able to create a special itinerary for the 2024 Giornate FAI d'Autunno. And throughout the whole process, the amuseapp team supported us in editing and updating the content.

And the visitors? How did they find using the audio guide on their smartphone?

Visitors have never encountered any particular obstacles using the app; in fact, they've always found it very intuitive, and once they set their preferred language, they were always able to visit the museum independently. We haven't had any negative feedback. It's easy to download and use.

What changes have you noticed since adopting amuseapp?

We've had an overall increase in visits and, compared to the first months after adopting the audio guide, an increase in the number of people using amuseapp.

Are visitors satisfied with the audio guide?

The audio guide tends to be used more by foreign visitors than by Italian audiences, and it has always been well received. The shorter route is considered appropriate for the exhibition, being not too long while still providing plenty of interesting details and information.

Have you noticed improvements in amuseapp's technology since you adopted it?

We adopted amuseapp in 2023, and we've noticed that the interface has improved a lot compared to the beginning.
