Galleria Nazionale delle Marche

Discover the experience of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche with amuseapp's digital audio guide.

The Galleria Nazionale delle Marche is housed in the Palazzo Ducale di Urbino, an extraordinary residence commissioned by Federico da Montefeltro, one of the leading figures of the Italian Renaissance. Under his rule, Urbino became an important cultural center, able to attract artists and intellectuals from across Europe.

Today the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche is a state museum owned by the Ministry of Culture and, since 2014, has been included among the museum institutions with special autonomy, thus becoming part of the network of Italy's leading national museums. The Palazzo Ducale itself is owned by the Italian State and represents one of the most important museum complexes managed by the Ministry, while also hosting other cultural spaces and outreach activities coordinated at a national level.

What were the main challenges before adopting amuseapp?

"Managing services is complex, especially for public cultural venues. These services go through concessions or tenders… and it's very hard to find solutions compatible with the complications of public administration. Very often that's exactly the problem: finding partners able to give you a manageable solution."

The critical point wasn't just the service itself, but the whole bureaucratic and administrative side linked to activating it.

Why did you choose amuseapp?

A decisive factor in the choice was the fully outsourced service management model.

"The solution you proposed enormously streamlined the bureaucratic side. It was truly decisive."

Since the Galleria is a public body connected to the Ministry of Culture, activating services like audio guides is normally bound by complex procedures, such as calls for tender, concessions or contracts, which make implementation difficult and slow.

In this context, the model proposed by amuseapp represented a particularly effective solution.

With amuseapp:

  • the visitor scans a QR code
  • purchases the audio guide directly from their smartphone
  • immediately accesses the content

All operational and administrative management, including payments and invoicing, is handled by amuseapp, without directly involving the museum.

"That was exactly the problem: finding a solution compatible with the complications of public administration. This approach allowed us to activate the service quickly, avoiding the bureaucratic constraints typical of public institutions."

Did you have other audio guide systems before amuseapp?

"We used to offer traditional hardware audio guides in Italian and English, but we had to suspend the service due to COVID-19. Also, making changes or updates to the audio guides was an extremely complex and demanding task."

Was it difficult to implement amuseapp?

"No, absolutely not. We implemented it quickly and very easily."

What kind of experience does amuseapp offer for the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche?

"With amuseapp we created:

  • a standard itinerary
  • an itinerary for children and families
  • an itinerary for the temporary exhibition on Simone Cantarini

The audio guide is available in 5 languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French and German."

Have you noticed changes in visitor engagement?

"Since we didn't have an audio guide system in place before, the introduction of the service was immediately perceived by visitors as added value. The audio guide has indeed been very well received and has also had a positive economic impact, meeting expectations in terms of price and accessibility."

Are visitors satisfied?

"Visitor feedback has been very positive, especially during the exhibition, where we received a lot of praise. Visitors generally tend to point out mainly what doesn't work, so the absence of complaints is already a significant indicator in itself. In addition, the audio guide content was perceived as well balanced, both in terms of length and intensity."

Which features did you find most useful?

"Among the most appreciated aspects is certainly the simplicity and immediacy of the technology, which lets visitors experience the visit in complete independence, in a 'do it yourself' logic. Added to this is the speed of content production, which we found very efficient and well suited to the Galleria's needs."

Would you recommend amuseapp to other cultural institutions?

"Yes, I would certainly recommend amuseapp to other cultural institutions, even smaller ones or those with limited resources. It lets you offer a quality product without requiring a high initial investment, and over time it pays for itself."

How would you describe amuseapp in one sentence?

"The right product for museums."
